Google Pixel 4 release date and availability
The Google Pixel 4 release date is October 24, with Pixel 4 pre-orders open from October 15. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL is available via every major US carrier.
Google Pixel 4 design and display
The screen on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL has scored an A+ rating from DisplayMate, and it comes with a 90Hz refresh rate – a first for Pixel devices.
It comes in three colors, Just Black, Clearly White and the limited edition Oh So Orange.
Google Pixel 4 radar chip and gesture control
Yes, you’ve read that correctly. The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are the first smartphones with a radar sensor. It powers gesture controls, and it has the fastest secure face unlock on a phone.
Motion Sense prepares the phone as you reach for it, so you don’t need to tap the screen to wake it, making it ready to unlock your face before you’ve even lifted it up.
The radar chip also allows for gesture controls, you can skip songs, silence alarms and even wave to a digital on-screen Pikachu, all without touching the screen.
You can turn it on or off at any time, and all the data is processed on the device and not shared with any other Google services.
Google Pixel 4 camera
The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have two rear cameras – this is the first time Google has put two lenses on the rear of a Pixel smartphone.
It boasts Super Res Zoom, which gives you a better quality image by pinch-zooming, rather than cropping after taking a photo from further away.
There’s HDR+ on board too, and with the new Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL it’s available in real-time. With Live HDR+, you can see exactly what the photo will look like – with the post-processing – before you hit the shutter button.
Google has continued to improve Night Sight, and extended it to a new area, which allows you to take dramatic shots of the night’s sky with the new astrophotography mode.
Google Assistant on the Pixel 4
Google Assistant is deeply integrated on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. You can make a command, and then continue with more commands without having to trigger assistant all time – it’s context aware and ready for follow-up questions.
It’s also faster to respond, with more of the processing happening on-device. Google’s also made it easier to handle the data Assistant stores, allowing you to quickly delete history if required.
