Luana Lopes Lara, the Brazilian-born co-founder and chief operating officer of Kalshi, has an estimated fortune of $2.6 billion following a financing round that valued the prediction-market platform at $22 billion. Forbes identifies her as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, a distinction that puts the former ballet dancer among the most prominent entrepreneurs in the expanding event-trading industry.

Kalshi announced the $1 billion Series F financing in May 2026, with Coatue leading the investment. Participants included Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, IVP, Paradigm, Morgan Stanley and ARK Invest, according to reporting on the company’s announcement. The transaction doubled the $11 billion valuation established in December 2025.

Forbes estimated that Lopes Lara and fellow co-founder Tarek Mansour each held roughly 12% of the business following the financing. That ownership estimate underpins their reported fortunes, rather than a disclosed cash payout. Because Kalshi is privately held, the valuation attached to its shares is not a continuously quoted public-market price, and the wealth estimate should not be confused with readily available cash.

Lopes Lara’s route into financial technology began far from startup fundraising. She trained in ballet in Brazil and later spent nine months dancing professionally in Austria before pursuing computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, according to published profiles. Her early career therefore crossed both performing arts and technical education before she entered entrepreneurship.

At MIT, she met Mansour, who became her business partner. Her experience also included internships at Bridgewater Associates and Citadel Securities, MoneyWeek reported in its account of the founders’ backgrounds. Together, the pair built a company around trading on the outcomes of real-world events rather than purchasing conventional corporate shares.

Kalshi’s markets span subjects including elections, sports and entertainment. Their appeal rests on allowing participants to take financial positions on whether specified outcomes will occur, with prices reflecting the balance of trading interest. The company’s funding success shows investors assigning substantial value to that business model, although a fundraising valuation is not itself proof of future commercial performance.

The company said proceeds from the Series F would support expansion among institutional customers, including hedge funds, asset managers and proprietary trading firms, according to The Block. Planned work included block trading, risk-management products and deeper brokerage integrations. Those priorities point to an effort to broaden the platform beyond its consumer-facing markets and establish more infrastructure for professional participants.

For Lopes Lara, the billionaire ranking is a measure of the value investors have placed on the company she helped build. The next business test is whether Kalshi can turn its financing and planned product expansion into sustained adoption. Its institutional strategy provides a concrete direction for that effort, while her reported fortune remains closely connected to the company’s valuation.
