Robinhood Markets posted record quarterly revenue of $1.42 billion in the third quarter of 2026, a 12% year-over-year gain that masked a dramatic deterioration in one of the company's once-fastest-growing segments. Cryptocurrency transaction revenue fell 55% from a year earlier to $120 million, its lowest share of total company sales in recent memory, as retail enthusiasm for digital asset trading cooled sharply.

Crypto trading volume across the platform dropped 38% year over year to $50 billion. Activity on the consumer Robinhood app fell 48% to $21 billion, while Bitstamp, the institutional exchange Robinhood acquired in 2024, declined a comparatively modest 28% to $29 billion. Crypto's share of total revenue shrank to roughly 8.4%, down from about 21% in the same quarter a year earlier.

The shortfall was more than absorbed elsewhere. Options trading revenue surged 31% to $399 million, and equities revenue rose 41% to $121 million, together anchoring transaction-based revenue at $867 million, a 19% annual increase. Total funded customers reached 28.7 million, up 7%, while platform assets grew 19% to $396 billion.

The quarter's standout performer was prediction markets. Revenue from event contracts hit $173 million — more than six times its year-earlier figure — surpassing cryptocurrency for the first time in the company's history. Robinhood's Rothera derivatives exchange, a joint venture with Susquehanna International Group, crossed $100 million in annualised revenue and has processed 6.4 billion contracts since inception, reflecting growing retail appetite for regulated event-based speculation.

Despite the revenue record, profitability slipped. Net income fell 14% to $476 million, and diluted earnings per share declined 16% to $0.51, falling short of analyst expectations of around $0.56. The earnings miss contributed to a sell-off in after-hours trading, with shares of HOOD falling more than 5% to near $89.50 from a regular-session close of $94.56.

Beyond its trading business, Robinhood continued to build its blockchain infrastructure. Robinhood Chain, the company's layer-2 network built on the Arbitrum framework, launched on mainnet in July and recorded more than $80 billion in decentralised exchange volume during its debut quarter, generating over $50 million in network fees. The figures underline the company's ambition to capture on-chain revenue streams rather than depend solely on centralised trading commissions.

The company also announced a partnership with Ripple covering RLUSD stablecoin integration, institutional settlement capabilities, and an expanded suite of Bitstamp services. Robinhood Gold, its subscription tier, reached a record 5.2 million members, providing a steadier, recurring revenue base amid volatile transaction volumes.

International expansion continued during the quarter. Robinhood launched cryptocurrency trading in the United Kingdom and received authorisation from the Dubai Financial Services Authority, setting the stage for a product rollout in the emirate in 2027. The moves are part of a broader effort to diversify revenue geographically and reduce dependence on the domestic retail trading cycle.

In a further signal of commitment to digital assets at the corporate level, Robinhood allocated $25 million of its treasury to bitcoin, a strategy that mirrors decisions by a growing number of publicly listed technology companies seeking balance-sheet exposure to the asset class.

The results present a nuanced picture for investors. The company is clearly growing its revenue base and deepening its product ecosystem, but the steep decline in crypto income — the segment that powered much of its earlier boom — and the earnings miss suggest the transition toward a more diversified financial-services platform is still a work in progress. Analysts will likely watch whether prediction-markets momentum is sustained and whether Robinhood Chain can convert on-chain volume into durable fee income in the quarters ahead.
